When did you get involved with horses?
I have had horses my entire life.

Who/what has been your main influence in the horse world?
My main influences include a long list of cowboys and horsemen, many of whose names you have never heard of. From ages of 16 to 20, I studied extensively with horseman and clinician John Lyons.

What is your go-to piece of advice when you are training, conducting clinics or speaking to a group?
Look for the smallest reason, the smallest try, to release your horse.

Favorite Weaver Leather products
Working Cowboy Tack Collection - There is something about the quality hardware and well-oiled, great-feeling leather that can’t be replaced by anything else. On top of that, it’s handcrafted in the USA.

What was the name of your first horse?
His name was Jack and he was actually a mule.

What was your favorite horse you’ve ever owner or trained and why?
Rooster was my favorite horse. I purchased him when he was 18 months old and for 23-1/2 years he was my partner in everything I did.

What was the first class you ever won?
Halter class at our 4-H fair.

What is your favorite show or event to attend?
My favorite event to attend is the NFR.

What activities do you enjoy outside of horses?
I enjoy snow skiing.

Do you have an embarrassing moment involving horses?
Stormy, my stallion, and I performed in a clown routine in Albany, Oregon that was posted to YouTube before we even finished the routine. We had a ton of fun, but it was embarrassing.

What’s your favorite place to ride?
My favorite place to ride is over the next hill.

Fun fact
I love dogs every bit as much as I love horses. My all-time favorite equine pastime is wrangling horses in big country.
